A Message from your Board of Directors
Dear Columbia Ridge residents,
You are likely aware that the Regional District of East Kootenay (RDEK) passed a resolution to ask the provincial health officer to close borders to non-essential traffic.
Although the provincial health officer, Dr. Bonnie Henry, does not feel that it is necessary to close the borders at this time, her key theme is “Lets bend the curve, not bend the rules” as well as issuing the following guidelines:
– abiding by strict physical distancing, not travelling to second homes and eliminating all non-essential travel, avoiding all indoor group activities – no matter how small, and, continuing to find ways to connect virtually, or by other means as opposed to in-person.
Your CRCA board of directors have taken steps to cancel or postpone community events. We recently closed the playground including posting signage and taping off the playground equipment. However, we are extremely disappointed to learn that the tape was removed and children were observed playing in the playground. This behaviour is unacceptable. This behaviour now requires re-taping of the playground equipment potentially putting another individual at risk.
Let’s all try to do our part to flatten the curve instead of being part of the problem.
We will get through this and be a stronger community for it. In the meantime, keep watch on your neighbours’ homes that are empty or offer to grocery shop for the seniors in our community. Consider volunteering to sew protective face masks or to grocery shop for vulnerable individuals at: https://volunteercv.ca/organizations/columbia-valley-covid-19-community-response
We also encourage you to signup for the Regional Snapshot. Go to rdek.bc.ca then type Regional Snapshot in the search function and scroll down to Email Group Sign Up. Emails include emergency notifications for things like COVID-19, flooding and wildfire.
Stay well, Be kind, CRCA Board of Directors
