RDEK waste survey

 In Columbia Ridge News, Uncategorized

We are currently undertaking a review of the Solid Waste Management Plan – and this truly impacts every single resident and property owner in the RDEK. Whether you live in a rural area or a municipality, this process affects you – and it’s BIG.

We have an Advisory Committee that will be meeting monthly over the next few months and I will be sharing a lot of information with you about the different focus areas in the plan (such as what we currently have, how much it costs, and what future options could look like). I hope you will take the time to become engaged and learn more about some of the key topics of discussion over the next few months as we lead up to the consultation process on the new draft plan later this spring.

Here’s how you can help right now: In the early stages of this process, we really want to hear from a WIDE cross section of people (yes, I’m looking at you!). Please take a moment to fill out this survey – it will help give us valuable information about how you currently use the system and some of your thoughts about the future decisions that will possibly be considered with regard to our garbage and recycling services over the next several years. Whether you are full-time, part-time, a business person, on your own or part of a big family…we need to hear from you.

CLICK HERE TO TAKE SURVEY (or copy and paste the link below to your browser) – Deadline is February 25, 2019 (but the sooner the better!!)

We are working on a new page focused specifically on the Solid Waste Management Plan Review. From this page you can see all the related documents and reports – including the results of the recent waste audit (to summarize: we throw a lot away in the East Kootenay…like A LOT), project timelines, the latest news updates, upcoming videos and more. You can visit the page at engage.rdek.bc.ca and you will notice this page will constantly be updated over the coming months.

I know we get bombarded with requests and spam – but if you are going to take one survey this year, please make it this one. The more we hear from people, the more the draft will reflect the ideas and vision of the entire region. Plus, it will play a big part in the submission process when the Plan is submitted to the Province for review and approval. Let’s knock this one out of the park!
