The Columbia Ridge Community Association has enrolled in a Fire Smart Program this year, with the goal of becoming a Fire Smart Designated Community
The advantages of theFire Smart Designation are many, including peace of mind and safety for all of us and our properties. Having this Designation could also result in increased property values.
A dozen of our members attended a Fire Smart seminar this past December to learn about the process. Jerry Johner has volunteered to be our Community Fire Smart Leader.
In order to make it happen, we'll need participation of many of our members through different stages of the process….for example some can be involved in cleanup of public and common lands, some can do a neighbourhood walk-by to identify fire risks on properties, some could transport the collected fire fodder to the dump.
We all may have fire hazards that we are not aware of and it would be beneficial to know about them. It could be wooden steps or decks, mulch or logs too near the house, tree branches less than 2 metres from the ground, etc.
Let's all work together to become a Fire Smart Certified Community
